Our Story

Harold & Mary’s story together started 56 years ago. They were married on December 21, 1963 with a dream to impact their world in a positive way. They met at South Carolina State College and went on to earn their degrees; Harold at Johns Hopkins University, M.S. in Environmental Health and Mary, certification in Elementary Education at The College of Saint Rose. They both have had successful careers in their fields as well as in many others over the years.

While Harold & Mary both enjoyed success in life, they also share a love for baking which they affectionately share with their children, grandchildren, and a host of friends. Harold discovered his passion for baking at the age of 33. It was then that he made a decision to become a Christian and desired to break the habit of smoking. He shared with a coworker that he was struggling and they suggested that he begin to bake. Within a short-time Harold was baking pound-cakes and no longer desired to smoke. Over the years, he has perfected his recipe bringing joy to all who order time and time again.  

Mary discovered her passion for making brownies at work. As a teacher, she would bring fresh baked brownies for her pre-schoolers to enjoy. As she continued to bring them for the students, teachers and administrators began asking for them as well. She has since branched out to expand her original recipe. People refer to them lovingly as Mary’s Brownies. Today, she receives orders from her church and people throughout her community.

Harold & Mary started Harold & Mary’s Cakes and Brownies so they could continue to share their passion with other people. Once people have tasted their fresh baked goods, they place another order, then another one!
